Choose the right builder for your large home plans

After designing your large home plans, your next step is to find a builder. For your largest investment, the right builder is essential. There are plenty of builders available to do the work, but how do you know if your builder is respectable? How do you know that he can see your large home plans and make them a reality?

You need to at least get 3 estimates for building according to your large home plans. If any of the bids seem too low, throw them out. Likely underbidding means they didn’t pay attention to all the details of the bid. Besides the estimates, there are some other things you will want to ask for.

Ask each builder who is interested in building your large home plan for references. Make sure their license is current. Check with the city building department and with the courts to see if complaints and/or lawsuits have been filed against them. Ask them about insurance. If one of their workers gets hurt on your property, you may be liable. Never hire a builder who doesn’t carry insurance.

The most important thing is to get a contract. Building your large home plan is an expensive endeavor and not getting a contract can make it cost even more. Don’t make the mistake of starting work without having every detail spelled out in writing. This protects you and the builder equally.
