split level house plans

Split level house plans maintain their popularity

Seeing a split level house plan may make you think you stepped back into the 1970s. The split level became popular after people tired of the boxed in ranch of the 50s. The privacy a split level house plan can give you may make this style right for you. Consider the different styles before you decide.

Split level house plans have one level about half a floor above the other living level. A common type of split level is a side split. You enter the house on the main level, where the kitchen, dining room and living room are. To your right or your left will be stairs going up half a flight and down half a flight. The stairs up will take you to the bedrooms and the stairs down will take you to a family room and the garage. Because this has 3 levels, it is known as a tri-level split level house plan.

Another tri-level split level house plan is sometimes called a front/back split. You enter the house at the level of a formal living room. There is a half flight of stairs down in front of you which lead to a family room and the garage. Up the stairs and you will find the kitchen and the bedrooms.

Both split level house plans give you an amount of privacy. The bedrooms are separated from the living area. This makes the style preferable to ranch style homes. This may be the style of home for you.
