Alamo house plan
An Alamo house plan is a generic term which means different things to different people. In fact El Alamo is a Spanish term and it means a Plane Tree, the most common tree in London both in the parks and on the Streets. The Plane tree is more generally called the sycamore in North America. One of the most common usages for Alamo is not for house plans but for the Battle of the Alamo, (February 23 – March 6, 1836) fought between the Texans and the Spanish. However the Battle of the Plane Tress sounds a lot less romantic and far more prosaic. Los Alamos is in fact a place name near Málaga Spain, and let’s have one guess what flanks the side of the streets - plane trees.
In general the Alamo house plan constitutes an ideal Spanish colonial architectural house plan. In other words a house plan built as a rectangle around a courtyard. The house plan may not all be built around a courtyard, in other words a complete rectangle around a large central courtyard, but the concept of a courtyard will occur somewhere with an Alamo house plan. The idea of a Spanish colonial property is the same as a Mexican hacienda; it represents an olde worlde charm and elegance rarely found today in our fast paced modern world.
Alamo House Plans rely on a cultural heritage, a throw back to another time, the deep South of Texas and Florida before the settlers came. The architectural detail of the Spanish Colonial feature includes the stark white clean walls reminiscent of the Mediterranean or Mexico and the small red roof tiles. The walls are not just white but also very thick to repel the heat and the Alamo house plans are perfectly suitable for the hot dry climates of Southern Texas or California. The walls are often centered on and around cobbled courtyards, with a gnarled olive tree and a horse tethered to the said olive tree. The Alamo houses plans reinforce the idea of old world Spanish colonialism by wrought iron windows, and a wrought iron gates outside the main front door which are often round and heavily carved.
In some cases the Spanish themes are extended inside with terracotta or marble floor tiles, open plan bathrooms with free standing baths and bidets. The kitchen often has Spanish style tiles on the walls as well as the floor. The Alamo house plans are more suited to temperate climes that have warm summers and long hot nights than the colder climes of Northern Europe. However given the right climate they can deliver a stylish individual house. They are also popular because they can offer new technological advances in energy conservation because of their compact size.
