Self Sufficient House Plan
Self sufficient house plans are achievable and the goal is becoming more and more desirable as the world’s energy costs are going up. Self sufficient house plans means that you have to go “off grid” for your energy requirements, off grid means that you produce all the electricity that your house needs yourself. In general off grid systems of alternative energy are about thirty percent dearer to install than on grid systems, but they do mean that energy costs are much cheaper.
On grid means that you produce your own electricity by a form of alternative energy for instance wind power and you then send the total amount of electricity produced back into the public grid via your utility provider. An on grid system means that you do not get to use any of the electricity you produce. The house holder then receives credit for the electricity they have produced and this reduces the costs of the electricity you buy.
This plan sounds better on paper than it ideas in practice as few companies purchase electricity at a fair market price and yet they still sell their product at premium prices. It is for this reason that self sufficient house plans are better by just producing the electricity that they are likely to consume.
Self sufficient house plans often include some form of wind turbine and this is useful when you have at least half an acre of open ground and the local wind speeds are at least ten miles an hour. If neither of these conditions applies then wind power is not for you. In general wind turbines do not produce enough electricity for the house to be self sufficient but their efficiency is greatly increased by using wind and solar power together. They work together because when there is little sun it tends to be an overcast day with increased wind.
Self sufficient house plan should take into account that your house is an energy ecosystem and all part of it interconnect and interact. For instance if you have a high quality loft insulation combined with double glazing then when you need a new boiler it may be possible to purchase a smaller size because your house is already warmer. In general for every dollar spent you can recoup between three and five dollars on the costs of alternative energy and that figure is likely to be nearer five dollars with self sufficient house plans. At a time when many of us are facing a depression the like of which none of us have seen we are all looking for ways to reduce our outgoings but not our quality of life.
